Basic Info
Location:United States
Bio
Character Name: Uzumaki Naruto
Series: Naruto
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Species: Human
Sexuality: He doesn't think much about it. Probably straight.

Appearance: Naruto is shorter than most boys of his age, but although his stature isn't great, he makes an impression. His usual ensemble is an orange and black jacket, orange pants, blue sandals, and blue headband with a metal plate (forehead protector) carved with the sign of the Leaf. Recently he's added a long red coat with black flames to the ensemble.

Naruto's hair is blond and spiky and his eyes are sky blue. He has three distinct lines on each cheek that closely resemble whiskers.

Personality: Loud. Sometimes obnoxious. Also loud. To say Naruto is exuberant is an understatement at best. He has endless optimism, boundless quantities of energy, and is basically so much of a Shounen Hero that if there was an award, he'd probably win it. When he was younger Naruto had all of these characteristics in spades, but as a teenager who's been through a lot in recent years, he has grown up and dialed down most of his obnoxious and disruptive behavior some, if not his general enthusiasm and good cheer. Sort of like turning a huge waterfall down to a moderate fire hose spray. Still, anyone meeting him for the first time is likely to be somewhat overwhelmed by his energy and cheeriness, not to mention all the yelling. Naruto's normal speaking voice is pretty much several decibels above everyone else's.

But when an enemy makes an appearance, when someone or something Naruto cares about is threatened, he loses the happy-go-lucky attitude and becomes someone much stronger--someone whose strength is founded in his belief in himself and the people around him. Naruto does. Not. Give. Up. Period. No matter what the odds, or the stakes. Nobody would argue that he's a genius, but Naruto has an amazing reserve of creativity and resourcefulness that he puts to use in every trial he faces. When one way doesn't work, he finds another. When every last well of strength runs out, Naruto keeps dragging himself forward. He doesn't do it for himself; he does it to protect the people he loves. And more often than not, Naruto's tenacity is an inspiration to people around him. More than an inspiration--he's been known to save the most ravaged of souls simply by demonstrating that Friendship! Is More Important! Than Anything! Naruto believes this with all his heart, because his friends are what saved him from his own past, a past in which he was neglected and isolated through no fault of his own.

Naruto sympathizes with those who have experienced pain and suffering in their pasts, having been there himself. While he himself is surprisingly well-adjusted for someone with a thousands-of-years-old killer fox demon sealed in his belly, he knows well that this isn't always the case for others. He's more about tough love than coddling, however--his plan for saving Sasuke, for example, is to basically beat the crap out of him and drag him back to the village whether he likes it or not. And Naruto in a fury can be a frightening sight, especially if the power of the Kyuubi is behind him. If you kill anyone he cares about, you're guaranteed to see his rage.

Abilities: Hoo boy. This is gonna get long. Naruto comes from a world where a good number of each generation train to become ninjas, tapping into special energy within them called chakra. They receive training in both physical combat and combat through the use of chakra. Naruto is strong, fast and agile; he's skilled at hand-to-hand combat and can throw a shuriken (throwing star) or kunai (small knife) with deadly precision. These aren't supernaturally-based powers and will not be limited. It's when you get into chakra that things get a little more complicated. In the world of Naruto, everyone channels and uses chakra a little differently; everyone has their own set of special moves and techniques. Rather than focusing on chakra in general, it'll be easier and quicker to just focus on what Naruto can do.

The basis for limiting his powers in Manhattan will be that his chakra flow is much more difficult to control. It will burn out quickly and be harder to focus. So whereas in the series Naruto could theoretically channel chakra into his feet forever, enabling him to do things such as walk up the sides of buildings and walk on water, here it will be only temporarily--so while Naruto might be able to walk on water for a short time, he will quickly lose focus on his chakra and sink, particularly if he tried to walk across one of the rivers. If he pushes himself too hard, his chakra will simply burn out and he'll be unable to do anything until it replenishes.

The special techniques Naruto can still use in Manhattan and how they will be limited are as follows:

Kage Bunshin no Jutsu, aka Shadow Clone Technique - Naruto can create physical clones of himself, seemingly without limit (he's been known to make hundreds at a time), to act as decoys or distractions, to help him perform other moves, to overwhelm enemies with sheer numbers, etc. He shares a mind with all of them and can direct each one individually and instantaneously, like directing a body part to move. One hit on a clone, however, is enough to cause it to "poof" out of existence. And in DC, Naruto will be able to make only five at most, and only if he pushes himself very hard. Even one clone will be a drain on his chakra in mere minutes. He'll have to learn very quickly to pace himself with his clones to avoid draining his chakra completely and leaving him without any power until it replenishes.

Rasengan - By directing chakra through the palms of his hand and literally spinning it, Naruto can create a small and highly-concentrated ball of energy that can smash through buildings or badly damage an undefended enemy. He can't do it by himself, so he came up with using the assistance of a shadow clone to help him focus and spin the chakra. The move is dodgeable, and in Manhattan he will only be able to perform it once at a time, after which his shadow clone will disappear again and his chakra will be too diminished to do it again for several days.

Sage Mode - Recently Naruto learned how to tap into chakra in the environment and nature around him to enter this powerful form, in which his physical appearance changes slightly (his eyes resemble a frog's) and his chakra use and techniques are more powerful than ever before. It doesn't give him any new abilities so much as it greatly enhances everything he can already do. Entering this mode in Manhattan will make him quite a bit stronger than the average human and as strong as the most powerful supernatural characters in the city, if not so powerful that he could defeat the monster singlehandedly. However, it will have dire consequences for him. Though he will not be able to feel it in Sage Mode, his own chakra will be rapidly depleted; as soon as it's completely gone he will abruptly and without warning change back to his regular self, without a hint of chakra left. Worse, it'll take a great toll on his body, leaving him so physically weakened he'll barely be able to move for at least a day or two. His chakra will take much longer--at least a week, probably two--before it replenishes to a point where he can use his special techniques again.

One finally note--Naruto has a nine-tailed demon fox sealed in his belly. Ordinarily the fox's chakra, which is much deadlier and more powerful than Naruto's, will come out to give him extra strength and power when Naruto's own chakra is weakened or Naruto is particularly infuriated. Since this would make him way too powerful for DC, I'll just say that Naruto's seal is working overtime to hold the Kyuubi back.

Weaknesses: Although Naruto can be surprisingly cunning and resourceful when the situation calls for it, he's not the slightest bit strategic. He's the kind of person to run headlong into a mess without listening to warnings or considering the potential consequences. It's gotten him into trouble before, and it would definitely get him into trouble in Manhattan. Naruto also lacks social grace; he's loud, easily overexcited, and pretty much says whatever pops into his head without thinking it over first.

Manhattanite or outsider? Outsider

History: Naruto was born and raised in Konohagakure, the Village of the Leaf. He was the son of Uzumaki Kushina (who presumably died in childbirth) and Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage (a leader chosen from the village's elite ninja to act as its head and military commander). When the Kyuubi (nine-tailed demon fox) attacked Konoha and nearly destroyed it, the Fourth sacrificed his life to defeat it. He couldn't kill it, so he sealed it in the body of his infant son. Although it was the Fourth's last wish that Naruto should be regarded as the hero of the village, and the order of the Third Hokage (who resumed the position after the Fourth's death) that Naruto shouldn't be told about his father or the Kyuubi, the villagers hated and feared the demon fox, and transferred that fear to its vessel. Naruto grew up alternately ignored and ostracized by the entire village, without understanding why. Even the children of his generation, who knew nothing of the Kyuubi either, imitated their parents and abused him.

The only way Naruto was able to deal with this was by acting out and misbehaving, while alternately trying his hardest to become a great ninja and vowing that he would become Hokage one day, because as Hokage he would be the focus of the village's trust and love. Unfortunately, ninja arts did not come easy to him at a young age and Naruto was often the delinquent of his class. His teacher Iruka, however, treated him with kindness and encouragement, and when Naruto graduated to being a genin (the lowest ranking ninja), he was placed in Team 7 under Hatake Kakashi, a jounin (the highest ranking ninja), along with Haruno Sakura and Uchiha Sasuke. Though there was plenty of conflict in the group at first, Sasuke and Sakura because Naruto's first and most important friends.

Through the team's adventures, Naruto and Sasuke were rivals as well as friends. Sasuke, a ninja prodigy, started off leaps and bounds ahead of Naruto, but as time went by the gap was undeniably narrowed. In the Chuunin Exam, Naruto and his teammates had the experience of competing against other ninjas of their generation from Konoha and other villages as well. The exam culminated with an invasion of Konoha by Sand Village and Sound Village ninjas, led by one of three Legendary Sannins (a rank roughly equivalent to Hokage), Orochimaru. The Third Hokage died protecting the village, a sacrifice that Naruto took very much to heart.

Around the same time, Sasuke's older brother Itachi returned to Konoha. Itachi, who had slaughtered every other member of the Uchiha clan, was Sasuke's entire reason for becoming a ninja--he wanted nothing more than to kill his older brother for revenge. Itachi, however, had come from Naruto--or more specifically, for the power of the Kyuubi inside Naruto. Another of the Legendary Sannin, Jiraiya, who had been Naruto's mentor during the Chuunin Exam, protected both boys and drove Itachi off. But Sasuke, realizing from his disastrous encounter with Itachi that he needed to become much, much stronger if he ever wanted to kill his older brother, abandoned Konoha and went to become the disciple of their enemy Orochimaru. Naruto went after him, vowing to bring him back, but when he and Sasuke met in an explosive battle, he was defeated in the end, though Sasuke decided at the last moment not to kill him. Naruto was brought back to Konoha.

Three years later, Naruto, a much stronger ninja from extensive training with Jiraiya, set off on his mission to find Sasuke again, along with Sakura. At the same time, the organization Itachi was part of, known as Akatsuki, began moving again to capture the tailed beasts like the Kyuubi (and kill their hosts). One of the strongest Akatsuki, called Pain, went to Konoha to capture Naruto. The entire village was destroyed in his attack, and in the middle of battle Pain killed (or at least appeared to kill) Hinata, a Konoha ninja in love with Naruto. At her apparent death, Naruto's fury unleashed the Kyuubi within him. When it was on the brink of breaching the seal once and for all, Naruto's father, Minato Namikaze, appeared in Naruto's consciousness and spoke to him, telling him that he was his son and that he believed in Naruto. The Kyuubi seal was restored, and Naruto returned to battle with new resolve.
